Electric Oven Repair from a Local Oven Specialist

When an oven stops working, most people end up calling a general appliance engineer — someone who fixes washing machines, fridges and dishwashers as well as cookers. Adam is different. He spends his working days inside ovens, stripping them down and cleaning them, and he has now completed CPD-accredited oven repair training so he can fix them too. That sits on top of 40 years in the motor trade as a fully qualified auto technician, including auto electrics and electrical fault-finding. Read Adam’s account of his oven repair training day.

We’re a family-run business based on Woodfield Road in Harrogate, repairing electric ovens across North Yorkshire. You deal with Adam from the first message to the final test — no call centre and no subcontractors.

Common Electric Oven Faults We Repair

Most oven breakdowns come down to a handful of parts. These are the faults people ask about most, and what usually causes them.

Oven not heating up

If the light and fan come on but the oven stays cold or never reaches temperature, the usual causes are a failed heating element, a faulty thermostat or a thermal cut-out that has tripped. Testing tells us which one it is, so you only pay for the part you actually need.

Fan oven not working, or noisy

A fan that has stopped, or one that grinds, squeals or rattles, usually points to a worn fan motor. Because the fan spreads the heat around the oven, a failing one often shows up first as uneven cooking — burnt at the back, pale at the front.

Heating element failed

Fan ovens have a circular element behind the back panel; conventional ovens have elements in the top and bottom. When one fails, the oven often heats in some modes but not others. Elements are one of the most common replacement parts, and usually well worth fixing.

Oven tripping the electrics

If switching the oven on trips the fuse box, there’s an electrical fault somewhere — often an element that has broken down internally. Stop using the oven, don’t keep resetting the trip, and get it tested. We isolate the oven safely and use insulation resistance testing to find the fault rather than guessing.

Thermostat, door switch and wiring faults

An oven that overheats, won’t hold its temperature, won’t turn on at all, or keeps the fan and light running with the door open can have a faulty thermostat, door switch, terminal block or internal wiring. All of these are tested and repaired on site where parts allow.

How an Oven Repair Visit Works

  1. Tell us what’s happening. Book online, call or WhatsApp with the make and model of your oven and a short description of the fault. A photo of the rating plate, usually around the door frame, helps us check parts.
  2. Safe isolation and testing. Adam isolates the oven from the power and tests the elements, thermostat, fan motor and wiring to find the actual cause.
  3. A clear explanation before any work. You’ll know what’s wrong, what the repair involves and what it will cost before anything is replaced. If a part has to be ordered, we’ll tell you how long it will take.
  4. Repair and re-test. The faulty part is replaced and the oven is tested again before we leave, so you know it’s working.
  5. A clean, if you want one. We can clean the oven on the same visit, so it comes back working and looking like new.

Electric Ovens Only — and Why

We repair electric ovens only. We don’t work on gas ovens, gas hobs or anything connected to a gas supply: by law, gas appliance work has to be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Sticking to electric ovens means we can focus on doing one job properly, and you always get the right person for the work.

Should You Repair or Replace Your Oven?

A new built-in oven, plus fitting, can easily cost several hundred pounds. Many common faults — a failed element, a worn fan motor, a faulty thermostat — can be fixed for a fraction of that, and a good-quality oven that’s been repaired can give years more service. It keeps a working appliance out of landfill, too.

Sometimes replacement does make more sense: an older budget oven with several faults at once, a failed control board on a model where parts are no longer made, or rust and damage inside the oven. Adam will tell you honestly which side of that line your oven is on before any work starts.

Oven Repair and Oven Cleaning — One Visit, One Specialist

Most oven repair engineers don’t clean ovens, and most oven cleaners don’t repair them. We do both. Book a repair and a clean together and your oven comes back working and spotless, in one visit, from one person. See our oven cleaning prices or read more about our cleaning services.
